JACKSON -- Robert J. Morton, 63, of Jackson died Sunday, May 25, 1997, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
He was born July 10, 1933, at Fruitland, son of Clarence P. and Dorothy Webb Morton. He and Mary Ella McDowell were married Aug. 6, 1954.
Morton was a bricklayer more than 35 years. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where he was an elder, member of the choir, and co-chairman of building and maintenance committee.
He was a member of Altenthal-Joerns American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Jackson Trailriders Club, and served several terms as president of Tennessee Walking Horse Club of Missouri. He served with the 7th Engineer Battalion in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War.
Morton was formerly a member of Jackson Jaycees, had coached Optimist Club basketball, and had been a 4-H leader.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Michael Morton of Jackson; a daughter, Sherrie Troxel of Jackson; two brothers, Ronald Morton of Cape Girardeau, Nelson Morton of Kampsville, Ill.; two sisters, Marjorie Frost of Ste. Genevieve, LaFern Crockrel of Jefferson City; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.
Memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Grant Gillard officiating. Burial will be at 4 p.m. in Russell Heights Cemetery.
Friends may call at the church from 10:30-11 a.m. Saturday.
