Robert G. "Bob" Langford, 82, of Jackson passed away Thursday, Aug. 21, 2014, at Jackson Manor Nursing Home.

He was born Dec. 10, 1931, in Harrisburg, Illinois, to Boyd and Peoria Moyers Langford. He and Nell Coker were married June 24, 1950, in Harrisburg.

Bob was a 1949 graduate of the former Harrisburg Township High School. While he and Nell lived in Paducah, Kentucky, he worked 10 years at Union Carbide. In 1963, while living in Carterville, Illinois, he helped redesign the power plant at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale.

In 1972, Bob established Langford Mechanical and Sheet Metal in Jackson, working 30 years as an owner-operator, retiring in 2002.

His memberships include Shawnee Hills Baptist Church in Jackson; Williamson Lodge AF&AM 802 in Carterville; Scottish Rite, 32nd Degree; and Shriners Moolah Temple in St. Louis.

Loving survivors include his wife of 64 years, Nell; two children, Ray (Donna) Langford and Doris (Alan) Moore of Jackson; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, John Langford, April 21, 2014; and a brother.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday and from 1 p.m. until service time Sunday at the chapel of McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Don Estes officiating. Interment will be in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.

Memorials may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children.
