Robert L. Beard Sr., 71, former basketball and football coach at Central High School, died Sunday, May 30, 1993, at Clayton House Health Care in St. Louis.

He was born May 26, 1922, in Cape Girardeau, son of William and Mary Mildred Rector Beard.

Beard was a graduate of Southeast Missouri State University.

He moved to St. Louis in 1952, where he worked in pharmaceutical sales. He retired in 1986 and moved to Lake Ozark.

Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Wolfson and Susan Weitzel; a son, Robert L. Beard Jr., all of St. Louis County; a sister, Ree Wertz of Cape Girardeau, and four grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Church of Good Shepherd in St. Louis County. Graveside service will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Memorial Park in Cape Girardeau.

Pfitzinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
