One family circle was broken even more, and one was rejoined. Alphonse and Rose Hotop welcomed their son, Robert W. Hotop Sr. on Sunday, Dec. 13, 2020. He joins his sister, Rita Mueller, and brothers, Wallace, Joe, Clyde, Herb and Rueben Hotop, as well as his daughter, Cheryl Acup; son, Richard Hotop, and son-in-law, Roy Woodling, in rejoicing at the heavenly reunion...

One family circle was broken even more, and one was rejoined. Alphonse and Rose Hotop welcomed their son, Robert W. Hotop Sr. on Sunday, Dec. 13, 2020. He joins his sister, Rita Mueller, and brothers, Wallace, Joe, Clyde, Herb and Rueben Hotop, as well as his daughter, Cheryl Acup; son, Richard Hotop, and son-in-law, Roy Woodling, in rejoicing at the heavenly reunion.

Robert was born May 30, 1931, in Perry County, Missouri. He married Mary A. Switzer on Nov. 8, 1952, thus celebrating 68 years of marriage.

He served in the National Guard and later enlisted in the Naval Reserve. He retired from military service in 1980, having earned the Meritorious Service Medal.

He was well known around the Perryville area as the Colonial Bread man but later drove millions of miles for Gilster-Mary Lee.

Grieving family members are his wife; children, Robert (Kathy) Hotop Jr., Gina (Wendell) Hooper, Barbara Woodling and Mark Hotop; grandchildren, Heather, Donald and Maggie (Arren), Troy, Mary, Christopher, William, Nichole (Zach), Richard Jr., Austin and Jessica; and great-grandchildren, Mark, Grant, Jonathan, Maya, Layla, Isabella and Amelia.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Crain Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Cape Girardeau. Knights of Columbus rosary will be recited at 9 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Cape Girardeau, with the Rev. Brian Straus as celebrant. Interment will follow in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.
