TUNICA, Miss. — Robert Eugene Hester, son to the late John Rossell and Eula Marie Schearf Hester, was born May 20, 1934, in Delta and departed this life to be with the Lord on Friday, Aug. 19, 2022, in Tunica at the age of 88 years.
He proudly served in the U.S. Air Force, both domestically and overseas, for more than 20 years until his retirement in 1975.
He then worked for the City of Clovis (New Mexico) and the State of New Mexico as a carpenter, building inspector and traffic systems technician until his retirement in 1993.
Robert loved God, his family and his country. He loved traveling and working with his hands and mind to create beauty and was always ready help others to repair problems that seemed insurmountable to them.
He is survived by his bride of 66 years, Patricia Ann Earls, and two brothers, John A. (Deloris) Hester of Highland, Illinois, and Donald D. (Janet) Hester of Delta.
Robert is also survived by his son, Richard Lynn (Lea) Hester of Denison, Texas; three grandchildren, Hailey M. Hester of Sherman, Texas, Erick J. (Lauren) Castille of New York City and Jennifer L. (Tom) Kennedy of Albuquerque, New Mexico; and two great-granddaughters, Lily and Willow Kennedy of Albuquerque.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Pauline Argalee Hester, who was born in 1936 in Delta and died in 1949.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Sept. 2 at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee, Missouri.
Funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Sept. 2 at the funeral home, with the Rev. Earl Elfrink officiating. Interment will follow at Kenyon Cemetery near Delta.
