Robert James Hahn, 82, of Cape Girardeau died Thursday, Feb. 13, 2014, at Chateau Girardeau Health Center.
He was born Sept. 19, 1931, in Red Bud, Ill., to Harold and Adele Cowell Hahn.
Bob was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the Air Force. He received his engineering degree from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana.
He and Dorothy M. Easterly were married Jan. 5, 1952, at Chester, Ill.
Mr. Hahn worked for the city of Cape Girardeau as the city engineer for a short stint before starting his own company, Hahn Engineering. After that, he worked as vice president of development at Midamerica Corp. He was in his 30th year there, continuing to work until he became ill in January.
Bob became involved in many aspects of the city's workings to help improve the lives of those who lived here. He was described by many as a man of character, a fighter for causes he believed in even if they were against popular opinion, a mentor and encourager to countless people and a lover of his work. His love of nature and its beauty was evident through his paintings and the countless hours he spent at the family farm working in his vineyard. He was passionate about every aspect of his life.
He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, St. Mary Cemetery Board and the Chateau Girardeau Board.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy M. Hahn of Cape Girardeau; daughters, Angela R. (Tom) Jackson of Kansas City, Mo., Elizabeth M. Hahn of Ellisville, Mo., and Kathleen A. (Joe) Pitts of Bartlett, Tenn.; sons, John S. (Beverly) Hahn of Mosinee, Wis., and Timothy J. (Sue) Hahn of Augusta, Mo.; sister Phyllis O'Halloran of Richmond, Va.; seven grandchildren, Jessica Carlton, Olivia Moss, Eric Hahn, Melissa Hahn, Daniel Hahn, Nicholas and Andrew Barwick; and three great-grandchildren, Jansyn Moss, Gabriella Moss and Christian Carlton.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home, with parish prayers at 6 p.m.
Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, with the Rev. Bobby Manso officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.
