JACKSON -- Robert E. Cook, 61, of Jackson, died Wednesday, Oct. 27, 1993, on his farm. He was a retired professor at Southeast Missouri State University.
He was born Nov. 29, 1931, in Marquette, Iowa, son of James Boyd and Della McCarroll Cook. He and Dixie Lee Wilkes were married Nov. 19, 1955, in Fayette, Iowa.
Cook received a bachelor of arts degree from Upper Iowa University, master's degree at the University of Northern Iowa, and doctorate from the University of Iowa.
He taught at Valley High School in Elgin, Iowa, and at Britt High School in Britt, Iowa. He was a professor of biology and education at Southeast from August 1967 to August 1993.
Cook was a member of Lions Club, Millersville Fire Department, Iowa Academy of Science, Missouri Academy of Science, National Association of Biology Teachers, National Science Teachers Association, National Association of Research in Science Teaching, Promenaires Square Dance Club, and state board member of Missouri Federation of Square and Round Dancers.
He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Rolland Cook of Chester, Va.; two daughters, Julene Thomas of Rolla, Lorene Koeppel of Burfordville; three brothers, James Cook of Marquette, Clarence Cook of San Antonio, Texas, Marlin Cook of Tampa, Fla.; two sisters, Virginia Fortier of Prairie du Chien, Wis., Judy Jarnig of Marinette, Wis., and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers.
A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel. Immediately following the service, the family will receive friends at Central Junior High School.
There is no visitation at the funeral home.
