Robert N. Cox, 68, of Cape Girardeau died Saturday, Aug. 11, 2012, at his home.
He was born July 6, 1944 in Tampa, Fla.
Beloved husband of Margaret A. Lewis Cox, son of Dorothy Cox and the late Wilbur S. Cox, brother of Sue Hertlein and brother-in law of Ralph Hertlein, Dr. Wayne and Linda Lewis and John and Barbara Lewis; cousin of Judy Parker and Janice Erickson; uncle and great-uncle; great friend and mentor to many fraternity brothers.
Robert was treasurer emeritus of the American Red Cross, past regional president, chapter adviser, member of the national audit committee of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity, member of Choral Union of SEMO for 20 years, past president and member of SEMO University Foundation board, and member of Centenary United Methodist Church.
Robert never met a stranger and always had a smile and a joke for everyone.
His nickname of "JB" for "jolly Bob" (given to him by his fraternity brothers years ago), certainly fit his personality.
He was a prominent businessman for more than 35 years as the owner of his accounting firm, Cox and Associates. He has been honored by the Red Cross and Pi Kappa Alpha for his years of dedication and contributions of outstanding efforts. Robert achieved one of the most distinguished records in the fraternity having served as a regional president for more than 20 years, on the Foundation's audit committee, and was the recipient of the Fraternity's Chapter Advisor of the Year Award in 1984, Loyalty Award in 2002, and Order of West Range in 2010, as well as countless other awards and recognition.
Robert always had a song in his heart and loved to sing. He and Margaret were very active in their choral group.
He will also be greatly missed by his precious dogs, Bailey, Mitzen and Maggie.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Centenary United Methodist Church in Cape Girardeau, with the Rev. Tom Bass and the Rev. David Conley officiating. Burial will be at Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.
Memorial contributions may be given to a charity of choice.
