ORAN, Mo. — Robert “Bob” Dennis, 75, of Oran passed away Thursday, Nov. 24, 2016, at his home.
He was born Sept. 14, 1941, in St. Louis to the late Walter and Virginia Simmons Dennis. He married Gracie Bierschwal on Jan. 13, 1962, and she survives of the home.
Bob attended barber school in 1960 at St. Louis. He was a barber for a combined 38 years — 10 years in Oran with the last 28 years in Chaffee, Missouri. Bob was a Little League Baseball coach for 12 years, and was a Pony League Baseball coach for 12 years. He worked for Local 282 in Cape Girardeau for 12 years. He was a police judge for Oran in the 1980s for six years. Bob was mayor of Oran for six years. He was a member of the Chaffee Elks Lodge 1810.
Survivors include his wife, Gracie; one daughter, Robin Emerson of Oran; two sons, Pete (Carol) Dennis of Oran and Ricky (Kim) Dennis of New Hamburg, Missouri; one stepdaughter, Cindy (Garry) Shaffer of Oran; a stepson, Curtis “Bubby” (Vicki) Caldwell of Morley, Missouri; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Friends may call after 4 p.m. today at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Oran. There will be an Elks service at 7 p.m. at the chapel, conducted by the Chaffee Elks Lodge 1810.
The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral chapel, with the Rev. Brian Gill officiating. Burial will be at Forest Hill Memorial Garden, near Morley.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be to Southeast Hospice.
