Rita Shaffer

ORAN, Mo. -- Rita M. Shaffer, 92, of Oran passed away Sunday, April 14, 2013, at the Chaffee Nursing Center in Chaffee, Mo.

She was born Aug. 23, 1920, in Oran to the late Arthur and Nora Westrich Mier.

Rita married Ray Shaffer on Oct. 4, 1941, and he preceded her in death July 17, 1967.

She was a member of the Guardian Angel Catholic Church in Oran, St. Ann Sodality and Chaffee VFW Post 3127 Ladies Auxillary.

Survivors include a son, Dewaine (Dixie) Shaffer of Chaffee; two daughters, Doris (Gene) Hanselman and Carol Dirnberger, both of Oran; two sisters, Virginia Schoen of Bonne Terre, Mo., and Iris Crowe of Chaffee; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Lavera Heisserer of St. Louis, and a granddaughter, Amanda Shaffer.

Friends may call after 4 p.m. today at the Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Oran. A parish rosary will be said at 6 p.m. today at the chapel.

The funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Guardian Angel Catholic Church in Oran, with the Rev. Randy Tochtrop officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
