Richard Theodore Popp of 1967 Briarwood, died Friday, November 20 at the Missouri Veteran's Home. He was 80.

He was born May 17, 1918 in Cape Girardeau, the son of Joseph and Amelia Thies Popp. He married Juanita Sebastian, on August 17, 1947, in Cape. He is survived by his wife and three sons, Larry, Gerald and Joe Popp all of Cape Girardeau. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren: Jennifer Martin, Jaclyn, Jessie, Jamie, Rikki, Brian, Justin, Jonathan, Cory and William Popp all of Cape Girardeau and Joanne King of Springfield, Ill. A great-granddaughter, Tabitha Martin of Cape also survives. He was preceded in death by a son, Kermit Popp, 4 brothers and 4 sisters: Walter, Edward, Gilbert and Rudolph Popp, Alma McElroy, Edna Metje, Anita Reimann and Wilma King.

Mr. Popp was a lifetime resident of Cape Girardeau. He graduated from Trinity Lutheran Grade School. He owned and operated A&W Drive Inn on North Kingshighway for 34 years. Prior to that he worked for 12 years at Harris Motor.

He served in the U.S. Army where he received 2 Bronze Stars and the Good Conduct Medal.

He was an avid athlete, playing baseball in the Army and for the Independent Baseball League in southeast Missouri. He managed the Cubs Little League Baseball team 12 years and played softball until the age of 59.

He was a lifetime member of Trinity Lutheran Church and a member of the Central Baseball Lettermen. He was also a member of the V.F.W. and American Legion.

Visitation will be today from 4-8 pm at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel. The funeral will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday, November 23, 1998 at Ford & Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel with the Reverend Louis Launhardt officiating. Burial will be at Fairmont Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Trinity Organ Fund.
