Richard K. Spalding, 74, of Cape Girardeau died Thursday, Oct. 12, 2000, at St. Francis Medical Center.
He was born Nov. 13, 1925, in Cape Girardeau, son of Richard H. and Dora Marie Hager Spalding. He and Edith Page were married Jan. 2, 1946, in Cape Girardeau.
Spalding had worked at Wetterau (SupeValu), Noranda Aluminum, had owned and operated Spalding Motor Co., and was a projectionist at the former Esquire Theater.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, member and Color Guard member of VFW Post 3838, Eagles Aerie 3775 in Cape Girardeau, and American Legion Post 158 and Elks Lodge in Jackson, Mo.
Spalding served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Vicki Vernon of Jackson; a brother, Robert Spalding of Scott City, Mo.; two sisters, Betty Brugger of Jackson, Marilyn Retherford of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a half sister, Dorothy Randol of Cape Girardeau; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, a brother, and a sister.
Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel from 4-8 p.m. today.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the chapel, with the Rev. Douglas C. Breite officiating. Burial will be in Lorimier Cemetery, with graveside rites by VFW Post 3838.
