Richard Cecil Shivley, 88, of Webb City, Mo., died Wednesday, March 7, 2001, at Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Jan. 28, 1913, in Kansas City, son of Louis Franklin and Minnie Elizabeth Flougher Shivley. He and Ora Imogene Goswick were married Feb. 13, 1932, at Joplin, Mo. She died in 1990.
Shivley was a lifelong resident of the Webb City and Joplin areas. He had been a resident at the Missouri Veterans Home 18 months. He was of the Catholic belief.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II from Aug. 28, 1943, to Oct. 12, 1945, with Company I, 112th Infantry. He served at Normandy, Rhineland, Central Europe, Northern France and Ardennes. He was awarded five Bronze Stars and the Good Conduct Medal.
Survivors include a son, Jimmie L. Shivley of West Palm Beach, Fla.; two daughters, Alice J. Cook of Alba, Mo., Karolyn C. Brandon of Cape Girardeau; 10 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Richard Eugene Shivley; and 14 brothers and sisters.
Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel from 6-7 p.m. today, and at Simpson Funeral Home in Webb City from 1-1:45 p.m. Monday.
Funeral will be at 7 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Chapel, with the Rev. J. Friedel officiating. Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Mt. Hope Cemetery at Webb City.
