Richard Ryan, 91, of Jackson passed away peacefully Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2023, at Ratliff Care Center in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Dec. 25, 1931, in Reidland, Kentucky, to Roy and Nancy Pugh Ryan. He and Donna Spears were married April 28, 1989, in Jackson, Missouri.
Richard served in the Korean War.
He was an outstanding basketball player at Cape Girardeau Central High School. He was an avid golfer, tennis coach and certified barbecue judge.
He sold insurance for Allstate, and also sold real estate.
Richard was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Donna Ryan of Jackson, Missouri; daughter, Dr. Janice (Dr. Tim) Martin of Overland Park, Kansas; son, Brad (Rita Jane) Ryan of Castle Rock, Colorado; seven grandchildren, Rachel Ryan of Seattle, Tanner Ryan of Denver, Melissa (Scott) Harrington of Midway, Utah, Michelle Martin of Lisbon, Portugal, Nicholas (Christy) Ryan of Webster Groves, Missouri, Natalie (Will) Young of Oxford, Mississippi, and Eli (Rachel) Ryan of Jackson, Mississippi; six great-grandchildren, Harlow Ryan, Grant Ryan and Spencer Ryan, all of Webster Groves, Olivia Young and Emma Young, both of Oxford, and Presley Ryan of Jackson, Mississippi.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and a son, Gregory Michael Ryan.
Memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 3, at Centenary United Methodist Church in Cape Girardeau, with the Rev. Jennifer Long officiating.
