COBDEN, Ill. -- Funeral for Richard O. Reed of Cobden will be held at 2 p.m. today at Lutz and Rendleman Funeral Home in Cobden. The Revs. James Jackson and Kenneth Mixen will officiate. Burial will be in Limestone Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home from noon until service time.
Reed, 86, died Thursday, Aug. 17, 2000, at Carbondale Health and Rehab Center in Carbondale, Ill.
He was born Feb. 17, 1914, in Goreville, Ill., son of Ira and Zella Gist Reed. He and Billie Marie Hawley were married Nov. 29, 1933, in Herrin, Ill.
Reed was a mechanic at Vogler Motor Co. more than 28 years. He was a member and deacon of Limestone Baptist Church near Cobden. He had taught Sunday School at Oak Grove Gospel Mission Church, Liberty Christian Church, Drury Christian Church, and Limestone Church.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Billy Reed of Twentynine Palms, Calif., Robert Reed of Cobden; two grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and three stepgrandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, two sisters, and two brothers.
