Richard "Hoppy" Jones, 88, of Cape Girardeau died Thursday, Feb. 5, 2015, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born June 8, 1926, in Cape Girardeau to Lester and Gladys Mae McElreath Jones.

He and Margaret Roberta Langston were married Sept. 8, 1945, at Cape Girardeau. She preceded him in death on July 23, 2000.

Richard was a graduate of Jackson High School, where he played football.

He served in the Army during World War II. He worked for Cape Special Road District and Kelso Oil and was a manager for United Biscuit Co. He also owned and operated Appliance Parts and Service.

He was a member of St. Mary Cathedral.

Survivors include a son, the Rev. Rick L. Jones of Branson, Missouri and daughter, Cheri (David) Fuemmeler of Cape Girardeau; three sisters, Norma Jean (Edward) Campbell of Germantown, Tennessee, Shirl (Frank) Smith of Cary, North Carolina and Judy (Bill) Black of Birmingham, Alabama; three grandchildren, Stephanie (Stacey) Hart, Apral Jones, and Ryan Jones; and six great-grandchildren, Abigail, Hannah, Olivia, Alexia, Madisen and Ana.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; son, Terry Lee Jones; and sister, Ella Dee Hampton.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Chapel in Cape Girardeau. Parish prayers will be at 7 p.m.

Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary Cathedral in Cape Girardeau, with Bishop James Vann Johnston officiating.

Burial will be at St. Mary Cemetery in Cape Girardeau. Full military honors will be provided by Missouri Honors Team.

Memorial contributions may be given to St. Mary Cathedral Building Fund, Our Lady of the Lake Building Fund in Branson, or Our Lady of the Ozarks in Forsyth, Missouri.
