Richard Esicar

Richard Lewis Esicar, 76, of Cape Girardeau died Thursday, Dec. 23, 2004, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.

He was born on Sept. 1, 1928, at St. Louis, the son of Edgar A. and Bessie Ruth Sherman Esicar.

He married Georgia Leigh Schatte on June 12, 1948, at Cape Girardeau.

He served in the Marines during World War II and the Korean War. He received a Victory Medal for service during World War II. His other military service awards included a Purple Heart, Asiatic Pacific Campaign, Korean Service with Star, Armed Forces Expeditionary, United Nations Medal, Combat Action from the South Korean government and the Presidential Unit Citation with Star.

He owned and operated Esicar Meat Shop. He and his father, E.A. Esicar, and brother, E.A. "Edro" Esicar founded the business. The meat shop is now run by Richard Esicar's son, Blake.

He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and VFW Post 3838.

Survivors include his wife of Cape Girardeau; a son and daughter-in-law, Blake and Janet Esicar of Cape Girardeau; a daughter, Janice Leigh Esicar Halter of Cape Girardeau; a brother, E.A. "Edro" Esicar; two grandchildren, Jessica Powell of Chicago, Ill., and Mike Larkin of Springfield, Mo.; and two great-grandchildren, Nichole Larkin and Hailey Pate.

Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home from 4 to 7 p.m. on Sunday.

Funeral service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. Scott Moon will officiate. Graveside rites will be held by VFW Post 3838 with a Marine Corps League firing party at Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Marine Corps League or Southeast Hospice.
