Alfred “Richard” Eifert, 94, of Cape Girardeau passed away Saturday, Feb. 17, 2024, at Chateau Girardeau.

He was born May 1, 1929, in Illmo, son of Alfred “Turk” and Bernice Tisdale Eifert. He and Pauline Penrod were married Nov. 26, 1989. She passed away Oct. 2, 2011.

Richard was a graduate of Illmo High School. He entered the U.S. Navy on Dec. 3, 1947, and served as a Navy corpsman on board the USS Roosevelt and the USS Shangri-La. Richard was honorably discharged from the Navy on June 5, 1967, at the rank of chief petty officer. He then went to work for U.S. Postal Service in Cape Girardeau.

Richard was a member of Cape Girardeau VFW, Cape Girardeau American Legion and Moose Lodge. He was an avid fisherman and loved the outdoors and dancing.

Loving survivors include his children, LaWanna (Tom) Heise, Cindy (Joel) Neely, Mark (Diane) Eifert and Katrina (Wayne) Calhoun; stepchildren, Laurie (Allen) Young, Cathy (Charlie) Mason and Danny Ferguson; 19 grandchildren; and 36 great-grandchildren.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Pauline Eifert; son, Richard Rene Eifert; a granddaughter; and a great-grandson.

A private service will be held at a later date at Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to Missouri Veterans Home, Southeast Missouri Pets, Safe Harbor or Mac’s Mission.

Arrangements are by McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.
