BENTON, Mo. -- The Rev. William H. Marshall, 84, of Benton died Thursday, June 19, 2014, at his home surrounded by family.
He was born July 21, 1929, in Manila, Arkansas, to Edward J. and Sally B. Hall Marshall. He and Loretta Tate were married June 10, 1949, in Burdette, Arkansas.
Marshall pastored in Chaffee, Missouri, more than 45 years. He was pastor at Christian Mission Church in Benton at the time of his death, where he had been ministering since 2001. Other places he has pastored over the years include Milligan Ridge and Childers, Arkansas, and Steele, Missouri.
Marshall, along with family and volunteers, operated Bethesda Fellowship in Cape Girardeau, which was a food and clothing pantry ministry. Other ministries he enjoyed over the years included TV programs on TCT network. He had participated in "Ask the Pastor" for years until the time of his death. He traveled to Israel four times; Hawaii; Nottingham, England; St. Petersburg, Russia; Ireland; saw the pope in Rome; and took a Christian cruise to the Bahamas. He and his wife, Loretta, were a great ministry team. They were blessed to be able to celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary June 10.
Survivors include his wife, Loretta Marshall of Benton; a son, Danny Lynn Marshall of Knoxville, Tennessee; two daughters, Teresa Darlene Williams and Sarah J. Gregory of Benton; four brothers, the Rev. Charles Marshall of St. Louis, Daniel Marshall of Georgia, John Marshall of Benton, Don Marshall of Jackson; three sisters, Katrina Ames of St. Louis, Victoria Cox of Union City, Tennessee, Virginia Cress of Kansas; seven grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Edward Marshall; four sisters, Carrie Marshall, Betty Jo Queen, Maggie Dingler and June Ann Clark.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Ford & Sons Mount Auburn Chapel in Cape Girardeau.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the chapel, with the Rev. Larry Kennedy officiating. Burial will be in Lorimier Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.
