MARBLE HILL -- The Rev. Truman Collins, 72, of Marble Hill, died Tuesday, March 17, 1992, at St. Francis Medical Center.
He was born Aug. 22, 1919, at Schlatitz, son of Edward and Pearl Shell Collins. He and Virginia Eaker were married Dec. 23, 1939.
A retired General Baptist minister, he was ordained in 1949. He served churches in Missouri, Kentucky and Illinois.
Collins was a member of Hahn Chapel, Southeast Missouri Association of General Baptists, and Twin City Ministerial Alliance. He was named a Kentucky Colonel, was listed in Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Religion, was past president of National Sunday School Board, and had authored the book "Sunrays in the Sick Room."
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Survivors include his wife; a son, the Rev. Edward Collins of St. Louis; three brothers, Paul Collins of Mission, Texas, Earl Collins of Belleville, Ill., Lonnie Collins of Dittmer; two sisters, Ina Bohnsack of Advance, Wanda Ellis of Bell Flowers, Calif., and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother and stepmother.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Hahn Chapel. The Revs. Edward Collins and Gerald Huff will officiate, with burial in Baker Cemetery near here.
Friends may call at Liley Funeral Home in Marble Hill after 3 p.m. today, and at the church Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until service time.
