FARRAR -- Funeral for the Rev. Robert J. Koenig of Giddings, Texas, was held Tuesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Giddings. The Revs. Wilburn Michalik and John Davis officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Koenig, 74, died Saturday, Nov. 13, 1999, in Giddings, following a lengthy illness.

He was born Aug. 13, 1925, at Farrar, son of Rudolph and Lena Hemman Koenig.

Koenig was a graduate of Perryville High School and Concordia College in Springfield, Ill.

He taught at the Christian day school in Uniontown, and taught German at Perryville High School before entering the ministry at the dual parishes of Grace Lutheran in Uniontown and Zion Lutheran in Longtown.

Koenig served as professor of German at Concordia College in Austin, Texas, then served Trinity parishes at Pocahontas and Shawneetown, and went to Immanuel Church in Giddings as associate pastor. After retiring he became pastor emeritus.

He wrote "Except the Corn Die," a historical novel about the Saxon immigration to East Perry County, which was published in 1975.

Survivors include his wife, Ivadelle; a daughter, Becky; a son, Gregory; both of Corinth, Texas; and a brother, Hilmer Koenig of Columbus, Ohio.

He was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters.
