Rev. Robert Bingenheimer

The Rev. Robert Bingenheimer, 77, of Cape Girardeau died Sunday, Feb. 10, 2002, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.

He was born Aug. 5, 1924, in Cape Girardeau, son of Otto and Christine Nothdurft Bingenheimer.

Robert Bingenheimer served in the military during World War II in the 82nd Army Airborne Division.

After serving in the military he earned a business administration degree from Southeast Missouri State College. He later received a bachelor of divinity degree from Southern Methodist University in 1952.

He began his ministry as an ordained minister at the Illmo Methodist Church. Following Illmo he served as associate pastor at Sikeston First United Methodist Church. He then served 18 years at Eureka United Methodist Church. Later appointments included Linn Charge, East Prairie and Louisiana, Mo. After retirement in 1987 he and his wife made their home in Cape Girardeau.

Robert Bingenheimer and Verna Hobbs were united in marriage at Illmo U.M.M. Aug. 19, 1956.

Along with his wife he is survived by three daughters and their families: Marge, Jim, Brad and Corey Main of Cape Girardeau, Robin, Chuck, Christopher, Matthew and Jessica Sutton of Eureka; Becky, Dave and Jack Vincent of Jefferson City, Mo. Also surviving are two sisters and their husbands, Lawana and Ramon Wilkins of Tucson, Ariz., and Ruth Ann and Harvey Meyer of Cape Girardeau.

Robert was nurtured in the Christian faith during his youth at Grace United Methodist Church of Cape Girardeau. More recently he attended Maple United Methodist Church of Cape Girardeau.

A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, at Maple U.M.C. with the Rev. Jim Cooper officiating.

There will be visitation from 1-2 p.m. at the church.
