CROSSTOWN -- Private funeral service for the Rev. Oscar A. Bohnert was held Monday at Hope Lutheran Church. Burial was in Our Redeemer Cemetery.
Bohnert, 77 years old, died Friday, March 29, 1991, at St. Anthony's Medical Center in St. Louis.
He was born Jan. 18, 1914, at Crosstown, son of August and Martha Wahlers Bohnert. He and the former Erna S. Oetting were married March 13, 1938.
Bohnert attended St. Paul's College in Concordia, and graduated from Concordia Seminary in St. Louis in 1937. He was installed as pastor of Bethlehem Church in Greenleaf, Kan., in 1938.
He served various congregations in Kansas from then until 1954, when he was installed as pastor of Hope Lutheran in St. Louis. He was also chairman of the stewardship board of the Missouri District.
After 42 years of full-time ministry, he retired in 1980. He continued as supply pastor to vacant parishes, and part-time chaplain at Barnes Hospital.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Dorothy Fritz of High Point, N.C., Christine Bergsieker of Houston, Tex., Lois Schliepsiek of Lake Forest, Ill.; a son, Dr. John Bohnert of Elmhurst, Ill.; a sister, Veronie Toothman of Kirkwood; two brothers, Edward Bohnert of Altenburg, Arnold Bohnert of Perryville, and nine grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers.
