POPLAR BLUFF -- The Rev. John Nolan Beard, 85, of Poplar Bluff died Sunday, July 4, 1999, at the Lucy Lee Hospital.
He was born Nov. 30, 1913, at Piggott, Ark., to Daniel and Lula Dowdy Beard.
He worked as a farmer, factory worker and General Baptist minister. He started, pastored and attended several General Baptist churches throughout the region.
He is survived by a son, Danny Beard of Caulfield; two daughters, Melva Ely of West Plains and Carole Kanell of Poplar Bluff; nine grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Blanchard Funeral Chapel in Sikeston.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral chapel. Burial will follow in the Armer Cemetery near Bertrand.
