EVANS, Ga. — The Rev. Joel P. Borchelt, 56, husband of Debra F. Schipull Borchelt, entered into rest at his residence Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2009.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection, with the Rev. David Hunter officiating.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m. at Platts Funeral Home in Evans.
Joel was a Lutheran pastor who received his master of divinity from Christ Seminary in St. Louis. He was a parish pastor 20 years, serving churches in Minnesota and Iowa, and Advent Lutheran Church in Augusta, Ga. He then worked as a church consultant with Kairos Ministries the past 11 years.
Survivors include his wife; his mother, Sarah Borchelt of Cape Girardeau; a son, 2nd Lt. Peter J. Borchelt, USAF, Del Rio, Texas; a daughter, Ruth E. (Jason) Barta of Del Rio; two brothers, Ben J. (Carol) Borchelt of Rockville, Md., Paul D. (Bernadette) Borchelt of Richland, Mo.; and a sister, Margaret (John) Horn of Davenport, Iowa.
Joel was preceded in death by his father, Benjamin A. Borchelt.
