MARBLE HILL, Mo. -- The Rev. Jessie Odell Devenport, 93, of Marble Hill died Thursday, Jan. 15, 2004, at Eldercare of Marble Hill. He was born Nov. 29, 1910, near Bessville, Mo., son of Jessie Leroy and Nora Octavine Moore Devenport. He and Vallie May Lincoln were married Jan. 8, 1928. She died July 5, 1993...

MARBLE HILL, Mo. -- The Rev. Jessie Odell Devenport, 93, of Marble Hill died Thursday, Jan. 15, 2004, at Eldercare of Marble Hill.

He was born Nov. 29, 1910, near Bessville, Mo., son of Jessie Leroy and Nora Octavine Moore Devenport. He and Vallie May Lincoln were married Jan. 8, 1928. She died July 5, 1993.

Devenport was ordained a General Baptist minister in October 1939, and was pastor of several congregations in Southeast Missouri.

Survivors include a son, Jessie Darrell Devenport of Millers-ville; three daughters, Wilma Idell Williams, Velma Dean Fulbright and Doris May Fulbright, all of Marble Hill; a sister, Bessie Wright of Fort Wayne, Ind.; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister.

Friends may call at Liley Funeral Home in Marble Hill from 4 to 8 p.m. today.

The funeral will be at 12:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Luther Rhodes officiating. Burial will be in Plainview Cemetery near Marble Hill.
