ADVANCE, Mo. -- Surrounded by his loving family, the Rev. Jasper David "J.D." Smith, 80, went to be with the Lord Friday, Sept. 10, 2021.

He was born July 15, 1941, in Patton, Missouri, to Marion David and Florence Willard Scott Smith. He and Mary Ann Stovall were united in marriage on Sept. 17, 1960. She survives.

J.D. was employed many years at Hedrick Concrete in Sikeston, Missouri. He was also a full-time pastor of Grace Full Gospel Log Church in Advance, retiring in 2020 and remaining a member until his death.

He loved to garden, ride his golf cart, tell stories, and spend time with his family and friends. He was a very special man to a lot of people and will be greatly missed.

Loving survivors include his wife, Mary Smith of Advance; eight children, Julie Smith, Joan Stotts, Jane (Mike) Cato, Joy (Butch) Shirrell, Jed (Stacey) Smith, all of Advance; Joe (Debbie) Smith of St. Charles, Missouri; Jim Smith of Bell City, Missouri; and Jared (Maree) Smith of Chaffee, Missouri; and a sister, Helen (Jim) Rose of Park Hills, Missouri.

Also surviving are 21 grandchildren, Dwight, John and James Stotts, Adam and Zach Cato, David Phillips, Michael, Jordan and Ryan Smith, Aaron, Katie and Evan Smith, Austin and Maddison Smith, Jennifer G. and Chelsea Cano, Sierra Shirrell, Natalie Lawson, Jasper Smith, and Ava and Brylee Bowling; and eight great-grandchildren, Dax, Peyton and Paisley Cato, Jace Phillips, Maddox Smith, Aaden Adams, Finn Brown and Mavis Smith, and two babies on the way.

J.D. was welcomed into heaven by a child, a grandchild, five great-grandchildren, his parents, a brother and many more family and friends.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to service time Saturday at Grace Full Gospel Log Church at 407 N. Ruth St., in Advance.

The Rev. Matt Craft, Brother Bob Fry and the Rev. Joe Smith (J.D.'s son) will officiate the funeral at 2 p.m., at the church.

Serving as pallbearers will be his grandsons.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to Crown Hospice or Grace Full Gospel Log Church.

Arrangements were by McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.
