SIKESTON -- The Rev. James L. Nabors, 82, of Sikeston, died Sunday, May 12, 1996, at his home. He was born May 12, 1914, in Vardaman, Miss., son of James Madison and Callie B. Nabors. He and Gracie Moccasin were married in 1932. She died in 1937. He and Lottie M. McCoo were married in 1940...

SIKESTON -- The Rev. James L. Nabors, 82, of Sikeston, died Sunday, May 12, 1996, at his home.

He was born May 12, 1914, in Vardaman, Miss., son of James Madison and Callie B. Nabors. He and Gracie Moccasin were married in 1932. She died in 1937. He and Lottie M. McCoo were married in 1940.

Nabors moved to Sikeston in 1945. He formerly worked at Sikeston Water Department, and was a long time employee at International Shoe Co. in Sikeston, retiring in 1967.

He accepted the call into the ministry in 1948. He has served as pastor of New Morning Star Baptist in Haywood City, Summers Hill Baptist at Matthews, New Home Baptist at Oran, Northside Baptist in Kennett, and St. John Baptist in Sikeston.

Nabors was moderator of the Christian Liberty District Association 15 years. He organized King's Chapel Baptist Church in 1980, which was renamed Cornerstone Baptist Church in 1989.

Survivors include his wife; nine sons, James Jr., Lee, Joe and Lynn Nabors of Sikeston; Roy, Ben and David Nabors of Milwaukee, Wis., Tommy Nabors of Detroit, Mich., Calvin Nabors of Raleigh, N.C.; eight daughters, Carrie Harris, Florida Nabors and Joyce McKinney of Sikeston, Clarinda Palmer of Baton Rouge, La., Tina Thomas and Linda Nabors of Milwaukee, Vera Rollins of Cape Girardeau, Leatha Foster of Alton, Ill.; two sisters, Gracie Leonard and Marie Nabors of Milwaukee; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Friends may call at Cornerstone Church from 6-8 p.m. Thursday.

Funeral service will be at the church at 1 p.m. Friday. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
