Rev. Hal Phillips Jr.

The Rev. Hal Cole Phillips Jr., 67, the Lord's faithful servant, went to be with the Heavenly Father on Friday, June 29, 2018, at Life Care Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born July 14, 1950, in St. Louis to Hal Cole Sr. and Ruby A. Dutcher Phillips.

In his early years, Hal attended Southeast Missouri State University with a focus in social work. He later became a public-relations manager in the hotel industry.

He was a member of First Baptist Church of Scott City. He was licensed in gospel ministry in 2012. Hal had a passion for embroidering quilts, Bible study and the ministry. Hal enjoyed being with people and never met a stranger. He had a smile, words of encouragement and a prayer for everyone.

Survivors include six sisters, Peggy Seiler of Morgantown, Kentucky, Merry Lee Johnson of Sanford, North Carolina, Carla Jean Barker of Cape Girardeau, Sheila Kay Phillips of Christopher, Illinois, Lisa Beth Kail of Cape Girardeau and Kathleen Ann McGill of Cape Girardeau; two brothers, Stephen Flynn Phillips of Beaverton, Oregon, and Gregory Lyle Phillips of Scott City; 16 nieces and nephews; and 29 great-nieces and -nephews

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Beverly Moreland.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.

Funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Mike Parry officiating. Burial will be at Fairmount Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.

Memorial contributions may be given to the American Cancer Society, in honor of his father and sister.
