The Rev. Ellis Albert Grant, 68, of Jackson passed away Thursday, Dec. 14, 2006, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born June 23, 1938, in Lutesville, Mo., one of seven children of the Rev. Paul M. and Furn E. Eaker Grant. He and Ruth Ann Gould were married Dec. 21, 1958.
He was inducted into the U.S. Army Oct. 18, 1961, and was honorably discharged Oct. 17, 1963.
Ellis was an ordained General Baptist minister, serving congregations in Matthews, Mo., Tahlequah, Okla., St. Charles, Mo., Jackson, and Ida, Ark. In 2003 he retired from the postal processing center in Cape Girardeau.
Loving survivors include his wife of 47 years, Ruth Ann of Jackson; three sons: Rev. Michael E. Grant, wife Anita, children Ethan and Bethany of Jackson; Stephen T. Grant, wife Stephanie, son Adam of Jackson, daughter Ashley (SrA Trey) Ferrell, and their son Hunter of Whiteman Air Force Base; Charles M. Grant, wife Alisha and daughter Arabella of Jackson.
Also surviving are three brothers, Earnest (Lois) Elledge of Sikeston, Norman (Melba) Elledge of Advance, Jerry (Iva May) Grant of Edwardsville, Ill.; two sisters, Margie (Earl) Collins of Collinsville, Ill., and Frieda (Dennis) Hahn of Poplar Bluff, Mo.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Daniel Grant.
Friends may call Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m. at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson.
Funeral service will be Monday at 11 a.m at the funeral home, with the Revs. Michael Grant, Norman and Earnest Elledge officiating. Committal service will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield with full military honors.
