The Rev. Collie L. Shirrell, 86, of Cape Girardeau, died Friday, Aug. 20, 1993, at St. Francis Medical Center.
He was born June 4, 1907, at Zalma, son of John Shirrell and Zilla Fowler Shirrell.
He married Altha Reutzel on Sept. 24, 1927. She survives.
Other survivors include daughters, Ester M. Waldrup of Cape Girardeau, Mary L. Drake of Fenton, Mo., and Carol Stephenson of Cape Girardeau; seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Shirrell served as pastor of the First Church of God 37 years before his retirement in 1987, and was currently serving as interim pastor. He served as assistant pastor at the church under his father, the Rev. John H. Shirrell, from 1933 until 1950, when he became pastor.
He was a member of the church's Camp Sharon Board for a number of years, and was a member of the Cape Girardeau Ministerial Alliance. He was active in the Church of God District & State Association. Shirrell had an "open door" policy, administering to people who had no church affiliation.
Service will be held at the First Church of God Tuesday at 2 p.m., with the Rev. E. K. Haseltine officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park.
Friends may call Monday from 4 to 8 p.. at the Ford & Sons Sprigg St. Chapel.
