PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- The Rev. Charles Y. Herbst, 79, of Perryville died Monday, May 20, 2002, at St. Mary's of the Barrens.
He was born May 23, 1922, in St. Louis, son of Charles and Della Lockner Herbst.
Herbst had 22 years of education, and a master's degree in speech. He was a Catholic priest with the Congregation of the Mission.
His assignments from June 1950 until his death included a special assignment in Washington, D.C.; St. Thomas Seminary in Denver, Colo., St. John's Seminary in San Antonio, Texas; Cardinal Glennon College in St. Louis, and the Evangelization Center in Cape Girardeau. Parishes he served included St. Vincent de Paul in Perryville; St. Louis de Marillac in Arabi, La.; St. Vincent's Church and St. Catherine Laboure in St. Louis; Our Lady of Victory in Sereno, Mo.; and at St. Mary's of the Barrens since July 1994.
Survivors include a sister-in-law, Shirley Herbst.
He was preceded by a brother and a sister.
Friends may call at St. Mary's of the Barrens from 5 to 7:30 p.m. today, and Thursday from 8 a.m. until time of mass. The wake will be at 7:30 tonight.
Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church, with the Rev. John Gagnepain officiating. Burial will be in Community Cemetery.
