The Rev. Burthel Doyle Cook, 82, of Cape Girardeau died Monday, April 2, 2001, at Beverly Health and Rehabilitation Services of Cape Girardeau. He was formerly of McClure, Ill.
He was born March 20,1919, in Jasper, Ala., son of Jesse and Martha Jane Wright Cook. He and Helen V. Davidson were married Nov. 10, 1941, in Marked Tree, Ark.
Cook attended Arkansas Tech in Russellville. He was a Pentecostal minister in Alabama, Arkansas and Illinois, and farmed in Arkansas and Illinois.
He served in the U.S. Army from Jan. 5, 1942, to Oct. 1, 1943.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, the Rev. Kenneth Cook of East Cape Girardeau, Ill., the Rev. Doyle Cook of Plymouth, Ohio; three daughters, Annette Thomas of Newark, Ark., Marsha Ellis of Sedgewickville, Mo., Sherry Thomas of Anna, Ill.; a brother, Calvin Cook of Gadsden, Ala.; two sisters, Versie Price of Jasper, Ala., Myrtle Bramlett of Jonesboro, Ark.; 12 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.
Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday.
Funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the chapel, with the Rev. Doyle Cook officiating. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park, with military rites by VFW Post 3838 and Missouri Military Honor Team.
