NEW HAMBURG -- The Rev. Alois J. Stevens, 78, of St. Louis, died Tuesday, Sept. 27, 1994, at Mary Queen and Mother Center in Shrewsbury.
He was born Aug. 14, 1916, in St. Louis, son of Frank J. and Anna Ottens Stevens.
Stevens was ordained March 21, 1942. He served as pastor of parishes in the St. Louis Archdiocese, and as chaplain at Missouri State and Algoa prisons.
After the Springfield-Cape Girardeau Diocese was formed in 1956 he served as pastor in various parishes, mainly in the Cape Girardeau area. His last assignment was at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in New Hamburg, where he retired in August 1992.
Survivors include a brother, Harry Stevens; four sisters, Marie and Catherine Stevens, Dolores Fuegner and Frances Rowland, all of St. Louis.
Friends may call at Southern Funeral Home in St. Louis from 3-9 p.m. Sunday.
Funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in St. Louis.
Friends may also call at St. Lawrence Church in New Hamburg from 6-9 p.m. Monday, and from 10-11 a.m. Tuesday. Prayers will be at 7 p.m. Monday.
Funeral mass will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church, with Bishop John J. Leibrecht officiating. Burial will be in St. Lawrence Cemetery.
