EAST CAPE GIRARDEAU, Ill. -- Rev. Albert D. Holtzclaw, 92, of East Cape Girardeau passed away Monday, Dec. 27, 2010, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
He was born April 10, 1918, in Maunie, Ill., to Thomas and Nora Jordan Holtzclaw. He and Mary McKenzie were married June 13, 1940, in Morganfield, Ky.
Holtzclaw preached his first sermon at the Pentecostal Church in New Haven, Ill., in 1944. He pastored in Galatia, Ill., from 1949 to 1960; McClure, Ill., from 1960 to 1966; Ware, Ill., from 1966 to 1974, where he retired. He taught Sunday school classes at the former Faith Tabernacle Church several years.
He received an honorary membership in the Illinois United Pentecostal Church District in 1991 for more than 60 years of service. He is currently a member of the Apostolic Promise Church in Cape Girardeau.
Survivors include a son, Charles A. Holtzclaw of East Cape Girardeau; two daughters, Rebecca Holtzclaw of Nashville, Tenn., Betty H. Shepard of Bushnell, Fla.; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Mary, a daughter, two brothers, a half brother, four sisters, a granddaughter and a great-granddaughter.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Sprigg Street Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Timothy Lee officiating.
Another visitation will be from 10 a.m. to service time Friday at Stendeback Family Funeral Home Kittinger-Fair in Carmi, Ill.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Stendeback Funeral Home. Burial will be in White County Memorial Cemetery in Carmi.
