Keith Russell Tolliver, 83, a civic leader and prominent Cape Girardeau businessman, died Thursday, Nov. 2, 1995, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.

He co-owned the Cape Girardeau Abstract and Title Co. from 1946 until his retirement in 1986. He operated the company with partner W.O. Browning and later Scott Browning, who still operates the business today.

He was past president of the Missouri Land Title Association. He was a past member and president of the Cape Girardeau Board of Education.

Tolliver recently was awarded the Melvin Jones Fellow Service Award from the Lion's Club International. He was a past president and past district governor of the Lion's Club.

He was a member of the Southeast Missouri Hospital executive committee from 1950 to 1968, and served as a longtime volunteer for the Girl Scouts. He was also a member of the Golden Troopers Drum and Bugle Corps, Southeast Missouri State University Boosters Club, Cape Girardeau Country Club and Centenary United Methodist Church.

He attended Westminster College and later transferred to Southeast Missouri State University, where he earned his degree. He was a member of the Kappa Alpha fraternity, and played all sports at both colleges.

After graduation, he taught and coached basketball, football and track at Fredericktown and Perryville High Schools. He served in the Army Air Corp. from 1943 to 1945.

He was born March 7, 1912, to Jack R. and Irma Russell Tolliver. On June 30, 1936, he married Kathryn Finch. She survives.

Other survivors include: two daughters, Carolyn Thomas of San Francisco, Calif. and Sarah Putsavage of Yardley, Pa.; a brother, Richard Tolliver of Springfield, Mo.; and three grandchildren.

Two sisters preceded him in death.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Centenary United Methodist Church. The Rev. Neil Stein will officiate.

Visitation will be held after the funeral service in the Centenary Family Life Center. There will be no visitation before the funeral service.

A private family burial will be held Monday at Memorial Park Cemetery.
