ROLLA, Mo. -- Raymond Baugh Rowell, 96, son to the late Rosker and Myrtle Jones Rowell, was born Sept. 21, 1925, in Ardmore, Tennessee, and departed this life Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2022, at Phelps Health in Rolla.
He married Ethel Lee Steakley on Dec. 6, 1947. She preceded him in death March 2, 2014.
Raymond was the chief of police in Chaffee, Missouri, from 1964 to 1971. He worked as administrator for Chaffee Public Works until his retirement. He was a member of the General Baptist Church and the Chaffee Masonic Lodge.
He is survived by a daughter, Florence "Sugar" (George "Rusty") McBride of St. Robert, Missouri; a granddaughter, Sammye (Kevin) Lawson of Dixon, Missouri; great-grandchildren, Becky (Jordan) Wilson, Tyler Lawson and Jake Lawson; and a great-great-granddaughter, Gracelynn Wilson.
Other than his parents and wife, Raymond was preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Chaffee General Baptist Church. Additional visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Monday at the church.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the church with the Revs. Bob Lewis and Donny Ford officiating. Interment will be at Oddfellows Cemetery in Charleston, Missouri.
