Raymond Godwin of Jackson died at Southeast Missouri Hospital March 25, 1995, at age 83.

He was born June 18, 1911, in the Oak Ridge community, the son of Shelton and Daisy Cowan Godwin. He married Louise Kibler Aug. 10, 1940. She died Aug. 10, 1991.

Surviving are a son, John Godwin of Des Peres; a daughter, Anita Sievers of Jackson; two brothers, Woodrow Godwin of Cape Girardeau and Morrell Godwin of Oak Ridge; six sisters, Mildred Grossman, Wilma Walker, Marybelle Headrick, all of Jackson, Hazel Williams of Cape Girardeau, Leila Schule of Arnold and Wanda Woodall of St. Charles; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren;

He was preceded in death by a brother and a great-granddaughter.

He was very active in the First Baptist Church in Jackson. He was a deacon, the church clerk for 44 years, and was active in the church choir. He had received his 50-year membership pin with the Jackson Optimist Club, and had 47 years perfect attendance with the club.

He worked for the former International Shoe Co. in Jackson for many years, retiring in 1976.

Services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at McCombs Funeral Chapel, with Dr. Rodney Travis officiating.

Burial will be in Russell Heights Cemetery.

Friends may call at McCombs Funeral Home today from 4 to 8 p.m.
