Burley "Ray" Spies, son of the late Rulen "Sam" Rufus and Reva M. Pruitt Spies, was born Dec. 18, 1933, and departed this life Thursday, Sept. 24, 2020, at Fountainbleau Lodge in Cape Girardeau at the age of 86 years. Ray was first united in marriage to Rosetta Blattel on June 28, 1958, and she passed away Aug. 13, 1981. He then was united in marriage to Nancy K. Eldredge in April 1984. Burley "Ray" Spies, son of the late Rulen "Sam" Rufus and Reva M. Pruitt Spies, was born Dec. 18, 1933, and departed this life Thursday, Sept. 24, 2020, at Fountainbleau Lodge in Cape Girardeau at the age of 86 years.

Ray was first united in marriage to Rosetta Blattel on June 28, 1958, and she passed away Aug. 13, 1981. He then was united in marriage to Nancy K. Eldredge in April 1984. She preceded him in death Jan. 6, 2019.

Ray was the owner and operator of Spies TV and Small Appliance Repair and a former employee of Superior Electric.

He was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Chaffee, Missouri, prior before joining the St. Mary's Cathedral in Cape Girardeau. He was a former resident of Chaffee.

Survivors include sons, Ritchie (Kelly) Spies of Burfordville and Shawn (Jennifer) Spies and Raymond (Nancy) Spies, both of Chaffee; daughters, Robyn (Scott) VanGennip of Advance and Rosalie (Allen) Haney of Chaffee; brother, Rulen Spies of Lowndes, Missouri; sisters, Clara Westrich of Chaffee, Ginny Ledford of Tennessee and Fimble Enderle of New Hamburg, Missouri; 14 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

Ray was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Spies; and sister, Barbara Westrich.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 27, at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee, with a prayer service at 4 p.m., conducted by the Rev. Joseph Kelly.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at the St. Ambrose Catholic Church, with the Rev. Kelly officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
