Ray Clinton Green, 86, of Crump passed away Tuesday, May 7, 2019, at his home, with family at his side.
He was born July 2, 1932, in Cape Girardeau County, son of Herbert and Alta Chapman Green. He and Emma Jean Williams were married Aug. 27, 1955, at Hahn's Chapel in Marble Hill, Missouri.
During his early years, Ray lived near the Crump community, and when he was 13, the family moved to Daisy. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany until he was honorably discharged. Ray and Jean owned and operated Green's General Store at Crump for 18 years. He was also a farmer, growing row crops and raising livestock. They ran the Green's Auction in Crump and would also sell items at the Sikeston Tradewinds Flea Market.
Loving survivors include his wife, Jean, of over 63 years; four children, Terry (Susan) Green, Rick (Dorothy) Green, Connie (Steve) Rich, all of Whitewater, and Mary (Dan) Tankersley of Gordonville; 14 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, Lloyd Donald (Marge) Green of Park City, Kentucky, and Jerry (Martha) Green of Sedgewickville, Missouri; and a brother-in-law, Don Darnell of Jackson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Goldie Darnell; and a brother, Gilbert (Nelda) Green.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.
Funeral service will be at 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, with Ray's grandson, the Rev. Andrew Green, officiating. Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Proffer Cemetery in Crump.
Memorials may take the form of contributions to Proffer Cemetery or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
