CAIRO, Ill. -- Ray D. Metheny, 65, of Cairo, Ill., died Saturday, March 26, 1994, at his residence.
He was born Aug. 19, 1928, at East Prairie, son of Ray V. and Ruby Walden Metheny.
He was the Postmaster of the Cairo Post Office for 45 years before his retirement.
Metheny was a veteran of the Korean war, having served in the U.S. Army. He was also a member of the U.S. Army Reserves and the Illinois National Guard.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Cairo-Alexander County Airport Authority Board of Directors, the Cairo Flying Club, the American Legion, the Southern Foundation and the Cairo Elks Lodge 651.
Survivors include his wife, Charlotte Metheny of Cairo; two daughters, Janet Fay Metheny of Afton, Mo., Cheryl Ann Metheny of Carbondale, Ill.; his mother of Cairo; and a grandson.
Friends may call after 5 p.m. Tuesday at the Barkett Funeral Home in Cairo.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Kenneth Provines officiating.
Burial will follow in the Green Lawn Memorial Gardens in Villa Ridge, Ill.
