CAIRO, Ill. -- Ray E. Crum, 63, of Cairo died Sunday, Aug. 17, 2003, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau. He was born Oct. 22, 1939, in Corinth, Miss., son of Arlander and Mary Harris Crum. Crum was a retired iron worker. CAIRO, Ill. -- Ray E. Crum, 63, of Cairo died Sunday, Aug. 17, 2003, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Oct. 22, 1939, in Corinth, Miss., son of Arlander and Mary Harris Crum.

Crum was a retired iron worker. He was a member of Iron Workers Union, Cairo VFW Post 2649, Cairo Masonic Lodge 237 AF&AM, KIM Shrine Club of Cairo, Ainad Shrine Temple in East St. Louis, Ill.; and was a York Rite Mason.

He served in the U.S. Coast Guard during the Vietnam War.

Survivors include his wife, Christina; two sons, Ray Crum Jr. of Jackson, Mo., Curtis Whitehead of Dayton, Ohio; his mother of Corinth; a sister, Mary Nichols of Jackson, Tenn.; a brother, Lonnie Crum of Salem, Ind.; and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Friends may call at Barkett Funeral Home in Cairo from 5 to 8 p.m. today. A Masonic service will be held at 7:30 by Lodge 237.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Jerome Fortenberry officiating. Burial will be in Mound City National Cemetery in Mound City, Ill.
