SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Randal "Randy" Lee Friga, 60, loving father and husband, suddenly passed on Sunday, Oct. 2, 2016.
He was born to Ralph Lee and Leona Alvina Obermann Friga on June 5, 1956, in Cape Girardeau. Randy was united in marriage to his beloved wife, Marsha, in 1980. To this loving union, four children were born.
He enjoyed life and meeting new people. A loving man of God, amazing father and husband, Randy was very caring and generous to all he met. He was a member of the alumni association at Drury University in Springfield and served on its board of directors. Randy was an active member of the Knights of Columbus and was a fourth-degree member. Prior to starting Friga Construction Co. in 1984, he was a Springfield police officer.
Randy donated lots of time and efforts to various charities and organizations such as Special Olympics and helping build homes and schools in Haiti. He was an avid educator, historian, writer, reader and Civil War re-enactor. He will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his father, Ralph Friga; loving wife, Marsha Friga; his children, Eric (Angela) Friga, Ryan Friga, Tara Friga and Sara Friga; a brother, Steve Friga; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Leona Obermann Friga.
Visitation will be from 5:30 to 8 p.m. today at St. Agnes Cathedral in Springfield, with a prayer service to begin at 7 p.m.
The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the cathedral. Following the service, Randy will be laid to rest at Resurrection Cemetery in Springfield.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Agnes Cathedral or to the Haiti Schools, with checks written directly to Walnut Lawn Funeral Home in Springfield.
