Ralph Woodrow "Woody" Proctor, 98, passed away Monday, April 4, 2016, at Assisted Living West at the Lutheran Home.
He was born Feb. 11, 1918, at Chaffee, Missouri, to Joseph D. and Georgia Redfearn Proctor.
Woody graduated from Chaffee High School in 1936. He and Kathryn "Katy" Revelle were married June 7, 1941, at Oran, Missouri. They were married almost 74 years when she passed away Feb. 24, 2015.
He served as a corporal in the U.S. Air Corp during World War II from December 1942 to November 1945. He was stationed in Guadalcanal.
He and Katy owned the Dairy Queen at Chaffee for several years, while he also was employed by Superior Electric. In 1960, he went to work as a clerk for the U.S. Postal Service. He retired from the Cape Girardeau post office in 1983.
He and Katy moved to Cape Girardeau in 1964 and were members of Lynwood Baptist Church.
Woody played football and baseball and wrestled in high school and was a lifelong Cardinal fan. He especially enjoyed being granddad to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by a son, David (Jeanie) Proctor of Nellysford, Virginia; a daughter, Brenda (John) Faris of Cape Girardeau; five grandchildren, Stephen Faris (Jenny Weiss) of Cape Girardeau, Stuart (Megan) Faris of Webster Groves, Missouri, Amy (Jack) Leachman of Asheville, North Carolina, Andrea (Tarlton) Brewer of Charlottesville, Virginia, and Kipp (Kari) Proctor of Bozeman, Montana; three great-grandchildren, Delia and Grady Faris of Webster Groves and Mary Grace Brewer of Charlottesville, and Baby Brewer due in August. Also surviving is a brother, Joe (Joann) Proctor of Herrin, Illinois.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Estalee White, Dorothy Thomas, Joetta Myers and Earlene Hooker; an infant brother; and two infant sisters.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with Kevin Coffee of Lynwood Baptist officiating.
The family would especially like to thank the employees of Assisted Living West at the Lutheran Home for the excellent care Woody received the three years he and Katy lived there.
