Ralph L. Dumey, 84, of Jackson passed away Sunday, April 1, 2012, at his home.

He was born Oct. 10, 1927, in Rockview, Mo., son of Linus Matthew and Fern Williams Dumey. He and Winifred "Winnie" Summers were married July 3, 1953, in Chaffee, Mo.

Ralph graduated from Chaffee High School in 1945 where he was active in football and basketball.

He was inducted into the U.S. Army on Oct. 27, 1950. He was a platoon sergeant with the 990th Signal Operation Corps at Camp Gordon during the Korean conflict and was honorably discharged Oct. 27, 1952.

Ralph and Winnie moved their family from Scott City to Jackson in 1962. He worked as a welding supply salesman/purchasing agent for the former Ozark Gas Co. and Mineweld Inc. in Cape Girardeau, covering a six-county area. He retired in 1992 after 30 years of service.

He was a member of Altenthal-Joerns American Legion Post 158, New McKendree United Methodist Church and an active member of its Methodist Men's Club.

He took great delight in designing and creating with wood, especially constructing theatrical sets for his son, Mike's, musical productions. He loyally followed the Cardinals and also enjoyed other sports, but his greatest joy was being with his family, especially grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Loving survivors include his wife of 58 years; two sons, Mike (Betsy) Dumey of Cape Girardeau, Mark (Laura) Dumey of Jackson; four grandchildren, Lindsey Wulfers of Jackson, Tyler (Kelley) Dumey of St. Louis, Lauren and Caitlyn Dumey of Cape Girardeau; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert (Mary) Dumey of Jackson; and an aunt, Laura Rilo of Jackson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, an aunt and an uncle.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the chapel of McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson, and from noon until service time Wednesday at New McKendree Church.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the church, with the Revs. Jimmie Corbin, David Israel and Karen Dumey officiating. Interment will be in Russell Heights Cemetery with full military honors.

Memorials are suggested to New McKendree Memorial Fund.
