Graveside service for retired Navy Commander Radford Henry "Sev" Severance of Durham, N.C., was held July 9 at Hawfields Presbyterian Church.
Severance died Monday, July 6, 1998, at his home.
A native of Buffalo, N.Y., he was a graduate of Cornell University, and attended the U.S. Navy Supply Corps School at Harvard University.
Severance was a supply officer in the U.S. Navy 22 years.
He was a member of the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barbershop Quartet Singing in America. He held offices on the local and international level, sung in quartets and choruses; led, judged, taught and coached in many areas of the society. He was recently inducted into two district Barbershop Halls of Fame.
Survivors include his wife, the Rev. Elizabeth "Betsy" Thompson Severance; four daughters, Marjorie Conway of Cape Girardeau, Ann Friskney of Cincinnati, Ohio, Suzanne Kershner of Southern Pines, N.C., Patricia Squires of Telegraph Creek, British Columbia; two sons, Michael Severance of Plymouth, Minn., Peter Severance of Maple Grove, Minn.; and 19 grandchildren.
