P.J. Schlosser

SIKESTON, Mo. -- P.J. Schlosser, 87, of Sikeston died Friday, Oct. 4, 2002, at Clearview Nursing Center in Sikeston.

He was born Sept. 27, 1915, at Kelso, Mo., son of John and Mary Burger Schlosser. He and Geraldine Brewer were married March 10, 1936, at Murphysboro, Ill.

He owned and operated P.J.'s Auto and Home Supply Co. in Sikeston from 1937 until his retirement in 1982. He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Sikeston and a charter member of the Knights of Columbus Council 3151 in Sikeston, where he served as the first grand knight. A fourth-degree knight, he served as deputy grand knight for the district council and state treasurer of the Missouri Knights of Columbus Council.

During his years as a member of the Scott County Community Sheltered Workshop Board, he served as vice president and president of the board. A scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts, he also served on the Eagle Scout Advisory Board, and the financial board of First National Bank in Sikeston. He was a member of the Sikeston Area Chamber of Commerce.

Survivors include his wife; four daughters, Irma Lee of Huntley, Ill., Sue Tippitt of Townsend, Tenn., Brenda Schmidt of Olive Branch, Miss., and Jane Kloppenberg of Webster Groves, Mo.; 12 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, three brothers, three sisters and one great-granddaughter.

Friends may call at the Nunnelee Funeral Chapel in Sikeston from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday. A prayer service will be at 7:30 p.m.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, with the Rev. Stephen Schneider officiating. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.
