Physician challenges state's medical malpractice law

SCOTT CITY, Mo. -- Gilbert Joseph LeClere, 55, of Scott City died Tuesday, March 5, 2002, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born May 5, 1946, in St. Louis, son of Russell E. and Iona Gertrude Doza LeClere.

LeClere had been a police officer at Scott City and a truck driver with Danny Gilder and SEMO Box Co.

He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War.

Survivors include a son, Kevin LeClere of Scott City; a daughter, Krista Brown of Columbia, Mo.; a brother, Lex Doza; a sister, Wanda Culpepper of Cahokia, Ill.; five stepsisters, Shirley Green of Tuscumbia, Mo., Cathy Smith of Ste. Genevieve, Mo., Linda Sutton and Vicki Bryant of Thebes, Ill., Bonnie Allen of Baldwin, Mo.; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a grandchild, stepmother, and stepbrother.

Friends may call at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City from 5 to 8 p.m. today.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the chapel. Burial will be in Lightner Cemetery.
