DEXTER, Mo. -- Phyllis Jean Stewart, 80, of Dexter departed this life Thursday, Jan. 8, 2015, at Cypress Point Skilled Nursing Center in Dexter. She was born Oct. 13, 1934, in Dexter, daughter of James H. and Myrtus Cooper Carney. She and Wyman Rudy Stewart were married Feb. 23, 1954, in Sardis, Mississippi...

DEXTER, Mo. -- Phyllis Jean Stewart, 80, of Dexter departed this life Thursday, Jan. 8, 2015, at Cypress Point Skilled Nursing Center in Dexter.

She was born Oct. 13, 1934, in Dexter, daughter of James H. and Myrtus Cooper Carney. She and Wyman Rudy Stewart were married Feb. 23, 1954, in Sardis, Mississippi.

Phyllis was a lifetime member of First General Baptist Church in Dexter. She worked all her life. Later in life, she was able to take care of a lovely lady, Reaven McKee, who was like a sister to her.

Survivors include her husband; a daughter and son-in-law, Denya and Archie Thurston of O'Fallon, Missouri; a son and daughter-in-law, Brent and Kiesha Stewart of Dexter; four beautiful granddaughters, Miya and husband Daniel Switser of Dallas and Kailey, Kara and Alexis Thurston, all of O'Fallon; a great-grandson, Hayden Thurston of O'Fallon; a brother, Kenneth and wife Shirley Carney of Bloomfield, Missouri; two sisters, Brenda and David Eldred of Springfield, Missouri, and Rebecca Stauart of Canada; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Wyman Lee Stewart; a brother, James D. Carney; and a sister, Linda Gastineau.

The funeral was Saturday at Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home, with the Revs. Kenneth Biggs and John Carney officiating. Interment will be in Dexter Cemetery.
