PETE THURMAN

EAST PRAIRIE -- Funeral service for Pete Thurman of East Prairie will be held at 2 p.m. today at Shelby Funeral Home in East Prairie. Mike Johnson will officiate, with burial in East Prairie Memorial Park Cemetery.

Thurman, 67, died Sunday, June 15, 1997, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.

He was born March 20, 1930, in Anniston, son of Leonard "Peck" and Marguerite Barnhill Thurman. He and Guynell Byassee were married Oct. 15, 1949.

A lifelong resident of Mississippi County, Thurman was employed by Southwestern Bell Telephone 42 years, retiring in 1991. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Nick and John Thurman of East Prairie; his parents of Anniston; a brother, Gary Thurman of Jackson; a sister, Joanie Vanlandingham of Danville, Calif.; and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a granddaughter.
